Posterodorsal margin of pleon segment 3 minutely serrate; urosome segment 3 with a fringe of setae on the posterodorsal margin. Coxal plates large, distal margins setose, plate 2 broadly rounded with anterior margin serrate; plate 4 elongate oval and weakly emarginate posteriorly. Epimeral plate 3 posterodistal angle rounded, posterior margin minutely toothed. Head with rostrum reaching to mid-point of peduncle article 1 of antenna 1, lateral lobes strongly produced; eyes large in female, very large in male. Antenna 1 shorter than peduncle of antenna 2, peduncle articles 1 and 2 about equal, flagellum about 9-articulate; accessory flagellum small, 2-articulate. Antenna 2 much longer in male than female, flagellum slender; peduncle in male with tufts of short setae on anterior margin. Gnathopods feeble; gnathopod 1 simple, setose, propodus oval and little shorter than carpus, posterior margin of propodus setose and spinulose. Gnathopod 2 in female strongly setose, carpus triangular, propodus very slender with posterior margin setose and spinulose, palm not defined. Gnathopod 2 in male less densely setose. propodus oval and little longer than carpus, palm poorly delimited, posterior margin spinose. Pereiopods 5 and 6 elongate, basis broad, merus longer than carpus which is longer than propodus, daetylus straight. Pereiopod 7 very much longer than 5 or 6, very slender, articles increasing in length from merus to propodus, dactylus long and slender. Uropods 1 and 2 strongly spinose; uropod 3 large, rami broadly oval, foliaceous, weakly setose in male. Telson deeply cleft, triangular, naked.

Mottled crimson, orange and white.
Depth range from 0 to 50 metres; occasionally intertidal at low water; may be locally frequent on sandy sediments.
Mediterranean, Atlantic coast of Europe to Scotland and Holland in the North Sea.
