Antennarius radiosus Garman, 1896

Diagnosis: bait a simple, oval-shaped appendage with numerous, more or less parallel, vertically aligned folds. Second dorsal spine attached to head by membrane. Dorsal finrays III + 13 (rarely 12), all soft finrays bifurcate; anal finrays 8 (rarely 7), all bifurcate; pectoral finrays 13-14 (rarely 12), all simple. Colour: a large, darkly pigmented, basidorsal ocellus. Size: to 180 mm SL.

Habitat: most often collected by shrimp trawl on mud bottoms at depths from 20 to 160 m. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: west coast of Ireland (1 prejuvenile) and Madeira (2 large adults). Elsewhere, from New York and southward to Florida Keys and throughout Gulf of Mexico.
