(Semper, 1868)

S. recta is a sea cucumber of variable colour: often dark. It is a medium to large species (to 400 mm) with 13 tentacles. The spicules are anchors with knobs at their vertex, bases unbranched and small, curved, knobbly miliary bodies (S. recta spicules). It can be found on reefs and coastal areas, exposed on sea-grass and sand flats.

Remarks: Clark (1946) urged a revision of this genus, which has several species included. Evidently recta is by far the most common form.
