N. proteus is a red, brown, grey or purple, small to medium, plump and ovoid sea cucumber, covered with large stiff tube feet. The body is soft and pliable, with 20 tentacles in 2 rings. Spicules are low spinous tables (often knobbed) and branched rods (N. proteus spicules). This speces can be found on reefs and in coastal areas, on sand. |
